š What Our Runaway Noosa (10, 21.1, and 42.2km) Finishers Taught Us About Progress, Mindset, and Momentum (Marathon Mindset & Outdoor Fitness in Brighton Winter)
Longevity in Motion ā Issue #4 Marathon Mindset & Outdoor Fitness in Brighton Winter
On the last Saturday in May, we witnessed something truly powerful: 10 Brighton Group Fitness community members crossed the finish line in Noosa, tackling the 10 km, half marathon, and full marathon events.
š„ For some, it was their first-ever marathon or half.š„ For others, it was a personal comeback, a new PB, or a celebration of months (or years) of consistent training through real-life challenges.
Whether you're a runner or not, these achievements arenāt just about distance. They're about dedication, self-belief, and choosing action over excuses.
Here are 3 key takeaways from the weekend that anyoneĀ can apply to their health, mindset, and goals.
šāāļø 3 Lessons From the Noosa Marathon Weekend
1. Progress is built one step at a time:
No one wakes up ready to run 42.2 km, 21.1, or even 10. Every finish line crossed was the result of small, consistent efforts, showing up, doing the hard sessions, recovering well, and not giving up when things got uncomfortable.
And hereās the truth: Itās not about going 100% all the time. Those who give 80% consistently will always outlast those who give 100% and burn out. Longevity is about balance, not all-or-nothing effort.
2. Start lines matter just as much as finish lines:
For many in the group, myself included, just getting to the start line was a massive win. They committed, trained through illness, bad weather, and busy lives. And that moment of choosing to tryĀ was just as powerful as crossing the finish line.
This applies to more than race days. Just showing up to a fitness sessionĀ can be its own start line ā and we see and celebrate that too.
3. You're more capable than you think ā especially on the day:
Everyone had a moment of doubt, mid-training or mid-race, and still kept going. Sometimes itās not about being the fittest person, itās about being the one who refuses to quitĀ unless absolutely necessary.
Personally, I had a tough lead-up with sickness in our house and niggles that disrupted my training plan. I hadnāt run more than half the distance I was supposed to complete on race day. But race-day energy, strategy, and stubbornness got me through, and I finished well under my goal time.
š¬ 2 Quotes to Keep You Moving
āIt always seems impossible until itās done.āā Nelson Mandela
āA journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.āā Lao Tzu

Whether itās booking a fitness class, going for your first walk or run, or finally signing up for an event, donāt wait for perfect conditions. Start now, ask for help, and figure it out as you go.
š Final Thoughts
The magic isnāt just in the medals (though theyāre a great bonus). Itās in the momentumĀ you build by showing up, starting before you feel ready, and sticking with it when it counts.
Your finish line starts the moment you decide to begin. So, wherever you're at right now, donāt let the start stop you.
